'First Spring' Fair 2022

The Grange, Northington, Hampshire

The 'First Spring' Fair at The Grange

We look forward to welcoming you to our first ever Spring offering, which this year will be held at The Country Brocante’s breathtaking new setting, The Grange, Hampshire.

The beautiful approach along the drive to The Grange, through sweeping parkland, is just one of the visual treats in store. The impressive Neo Classical house, with its magnificent portico, nestles in the genteel Candover Valley, 10 miles from Winchester. The house, which overlooks a shimmering lake, is said to be one of the finest examples of Greek revival architecture in Europe. Quite simply…we fell in love at first sight!

As you step inside you are transported by the faded grandeur of the bones of this extraordinary building. The house is bare, stripped back to the soft tones of crumbling brickwork and worn plaster. In places there are faded remains of painted frescos - a glimmer of a past heyday. The building was rescued from demolition many years ago and has been lovingly preserved in its decaying state by the Baring family and English Heritage. Standing in the entrance hall, we are suspended between past and present, held in the moment before disintegration. This lends the building a very real and enchanting character, a sense of vulnerability - the exterior so impressive and strong…the interior worn and fragile.

What you can expect

This unique house offers The Country Brocante the most wonderfully theatrical backdrop for the ‘First Spring’ Fair. It feels like the most perfect setting to host our quintessentially English Country shopping experience. We were struck by how our beloved time worn and weathered treasures will be presented in the most beautiful time worn and faded building, our love of texture and patina reflected in the walls around us, an architectural embodiment of Country Brocante style.

As always there will be an abundance of Antique and Vintage stalls offering exquisite traditional Country house interiors and treasured French vintage furniture, gorgeous antique fabrics, quilts, homewares and curiosities. We will feature many artisan makers and designers as well as flowers, plants and Gardenalia.

Immerse Yourself

We love to create a day out where our visitors can immerse themselves in our unique Country Brocante experience and ‘First Spring’ at The Grange will be no exception. Visitors can explore the House and Gardens while browsing the beautiful stalls. Our much loved Garden Galleries will be situated along the elegant terrace overlooking the sweeping formal lawns on which we will have our traditional Marquee filled with carefully curated offerings. After pausing for tea and cake, there will be opportunities to take in a talk, workshop or demonstration from leading creatives, authors and experts. We are also delighted to bring you delicious and vibrant seasonal food from Becka Cooper and we highly recommend you find a moment to enjoy a glass of The Grange - the award-winning English Sparkling Wine.

We are very excited to bring you our ‘First Spring’ at The Grange and look forward to welcoming you.
